Born in 1972. Dutch journalist, writer, filmmaker, TV show host. Brügger wrote a couple of books and worked with magazines as well as with newspapers. Producer of award-winning radio shows. Host of the critically acclaimed evening TV show “The 11 Hour” and also of the daily news program “Deadline”. One of the creators of the satirical documentary show „Danes for Bush” (2004).
The director of the documentary features „The Red Chapel” – the winner of the 2009 Nordisk Panorama Festival, award at the 2010 Sundance Festival, and „The Ambassador” (2011) – the opening film of the 2011 IDFA festival, presented at the 2012 Sundance Festival. Both films have been screened at festivals all over the world and went into wide distribution.
Brügger is known for his characteristic methods of “performative journalism” that allow him to go into and infiltrate industries or communities of his choosing. Both of his films have initiated a broad public debate after being broadcast by BBC, ZDF, VPRO, NRK, UR, RTVS, DR, HBO, SBS (Australia), Canal Plus (Spain), CTV (France), ERR (Estonia) and TVP.
Mads Brügger and Mikael Bertelsen are the commissioning editors of the new Dutch radio station Radio 24syv, which has started broadcasting on 1.11.2011.
During the 15. Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival, his newest film „The Great European Cigarette Mystery” will have its Polish premiere.
