Meeting “Is the Montessori method an answer to the problems of Polish schools?”

Monday, 21th May | 5.00 PM | Gdynia Film Centre: Warszawa room

Meeting “Is the Montessori method an answer to the problems of Polish schools?” after the film “Let the Child Be the Guide”

Partner: Polish Montessori Council

Montessori Schools are an alternative to state-funded education. Their tradition is over 100 years old and they are a part of the New Raising movement. They appeared in Poland in 1989, as an imported educational option together with other community schools. Their methods correspond with the socialized and humanistic education. The child is a pivot here and his or her needs are to determine the teaching programme. Teachers undergo special training and parents are a part of the school community too. Is it just an idea? And what is it like in practice? What visions of child and man does the Montessori school present? What are the Montessori education’s consequences for the student’s development and his or her further educational opportunities? Furthermore, if the new raising is a type of socialization, what kind of citizen does it prepare and for what society?

The meeting’s participants:

Barbara Jaks-Pietrucha – founder and principal of the Montessori Kindergarten “Nasz wspólny świat” in Sopot.

Wioletta Ulatowska – head of a Montessori institution. She has been developing the kindergarten “Skrawek Nieba” for 16 years and the Montessori Primary School in Kowale.
