After studying engineering and working in the field of new technologies, which didn’t fulfill his creative needs, Alexandre attended art history classes at La Sorbonne University, as well as photography, and then documentary film-making trainings at the Ateliers Varan.

Born in 1966 in Bucharest (Romania). In 1991, Alexandru Solomon graduated from the Camera Department of the Film and Theatre Academy Bucharest and started making documentaries aside from filming feature films.

Anna Zamecka is a Polish film director, screenwriter and producer. A member of the European Film Academy, she has studied cultural anthropology, journalism and photography in Warsaw and Copenhagen.

Bart Simpson is an award-winning filmmaker interested in films that entertain, evoke and engage public debate. He produced the feature documentary The Corporation (winner at over 25 festivals including Sundance, Toronto and IDFA).

Bing Liu moved from China to Alabama to California to Rockford, Illinois with his mother all before he was 8 years old. He honed his cinematography and editing skills making DIY skateboarding films as a teenager.

Born in 1977 in Leskovac (southern Serbia). Lived on a few continents, settled back in Belgrade, worked for 5 years for top-level international media, understood a few things and dedicated the rest of his life to creative parenting, creative football and creative documentaries.

Camilla Magid is an award-winning documentary filmmaker born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She studied Film at the University of Copenhagen and Arabic Language and Culture at the Royal Danish Defense College.

Swiss director and producer Christian Frei is considered one of today’s most innovative and compelling documentary filmmakers. He was nominated for an Academy Award with War Photographer (2001) and won the World Cinema Directing Award at Sundance with Space Tourists (2009).

Christian von Borries (born 1967) produces media from other media. He is an orchestra conductor, composer and producer of site specific psychogeographic projects. His work was comissioned by Lucerne festival, Kunstfest Weimar, Volksbuehne Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg and Documenta 12 among others. His cd Replay Debussy won an echo award.

Christopher Quinn’s debut film, God Grew Tired of Us, emerged from Sundance in 2006 having garnered both the Grand Jury Prize and the coveted Audience Award. Produced by Quinn and Brad Pitt and narrated by Nicole Kidman, the documentary chronicles the extraordinary journey of three Sudanese Lost Boys—men who arrived in the United States after a 15-year migration through their war-torn country.

Dario has a wide experience in several roles in film promotion, production and programming. He was one of the founders of Curtas Vila do Conde IFF, one of the most important short film festivals in Europe and a place that worked as a powerful platform of distribution and international acclaim of Portuguese cinema, as well as an event that brought to Portugal numerous films and European directors.

Dominique Marchais is a French director who began as a film critic for the Inrockuptibles, after a degree in philosophy at the Sorbonne. Between 1998 and 2003, he participated in the editing of the films of Pierre Léon, Pedro Costa and Jean-Claude Biette. In 2003, he wrote and directed his first short film, Lenz escaped. His films have been selected in many festivals across France and internationally.

Elwira Niewiera is director, writer and researcher. Her last feature documentary „Domino Effect“ (directed with Piotr Rosołowski) was shown worldwide at more than 30 festivals and won many awards among them the Golden Dove for the best film in the German Competition at DOK Leipzig and the Golden Horn for the Best Film of the International Competition at 54 Krakow IFF.

Eva Mulvad graduated as documentary film director at The National Film School of Denmark in 2001. Mulvad’s The Good Life (2010), was screened at IDFA and won the Best Documentary Award at Karlovy Vary. While working on The Good Life Eva also made The Samurai Case, the first film to follow a Danish trial from within the courtroom.

Finlay is a BAFTA award-winning filmmaker with a keen eye on film festival strategies and distribution for all of SDI films, short and feature length. He once set out on the long road to becoming a professional cyclist and has directed six multi award winning shorts, produced countless others.

Filmmaker, TV host and activist. Has been working all around the world especially in Africa making films about social issues and armed conflict. Founder of the ngo Doctivist. Currently head of the documentary department of Johan Boups Højskole an art school in Copenhagen.

Born in 1985. Hans Block is a German theater director,  lm- maker and musician. He studied music (drums) at the University of Arts in Berlin and theater directing at Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin.

Hawa has worked in theatre and narrative storytelling for 15 years, her work ranging from TV commercials, television series’ and documentary.

Hermann Poelking, born in 1954, lives in Bremen and Berlin. He began studying Journalism in West-Berlin in 1974 and became a partner at the publishing house “Elefanten Press” in 1979. Since 1983, he has edited and written books about 20-th century history, the history of technology, and everyday culture.

Jan Gassmann, 34, is a director working on the borderline between fiction and documentary filmmaking. At the age of 21, he first entered the competition at the Berlin Film Festival with his documentary Chrigu (2007), which won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. Many other festivals (including Acid Cannes) and awards followed.

Born in 1981 in Prague. Jan Gebert graduated with a degree in history from Charles University in Prague. He also studied in Spain, the US and Mexico. He works as a journalist and a filmmaker.

Graduate of polish philology. He also attended at the National Film School in Poland where he studied under the giants of Polish documentary: Kazimierz Karabasz and Lidia Zonn.

The director of “Looking for Jesus” („Szukając Jezusa”). Born in Warsaw in 1963. Sculptor, photographer, performer, film director, creator of video installations and artistic initiatives. Graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. In 1998 Kozyra started postgraduate studies at the New Media atelier led by professor Helmut Mark at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig.

Klaudiusz graduated from the University of the Arts London with a BA in Film and Video. After UAL he started Film Directing in Łódź Film School where he directed both fiction and documentary films. He assisted in feature films such as “Lasting” dir. J. Borcuch and a BBC series “The Passing Bells” dir. B.Maher.

Kuba Mikurda is a film lecturer and filmmaker based in Warsaw, Poland. He started as a film critic, journalist and publisher, then worked as TV director and film news presenter for Canal+ Poland. He also co-edited books on Terry Gilliam, Brothers Quay, Guy Maddin, Tsai Ming-liang and, last but not least, Walerian Borowczyk.

„MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A.”, a film by Steve Loveridge, based on previously unseen archival materials made by M.I.A., is an intimate portrait of this extraordinary artist which presents how she uses pop music as a political tool and why she is so determined to be an outsider, to rebel against restraints, the injustice of the system, hypocrisy and political duplicity.

Born in 1972. Dutch journalist, writer, filmmaker, TV show host. Brügger wrote a couple of books and worked with magazines as well as with newspapers. Producer of award-winning radio shows. Host of the critically acclaimed evening TV show “The 11 Hour” and also of the daily news program “Deadline”. One of the creators of the satirical documentary show „Danes for Bush” (2004).

Magdalena Szymków is a documentary filmmaker, screenwriter and film archives researcher with journalistic background, graduated from Wajda School in Warsaw.

Director and screenwriter. Born in Sweden, Lodz Film School graduate and currently living in Warsaw. His student films “Echo” (2008) and “Without Snow” (2011) brought him international recognition.

Martti Kaartinen is a filmmaker and scriptwriter. He has acted as a lead in several short films shown at
major festivals and broadcasted on tv. He is currently involved in several different film projects as a director, writer and as an actor.

Niklas Kullström is a producer, director, cinematographer and media artist who has graduated with a BA in aesthetics from the University of Helsinki and with an MA in photography from Aalto University.

Norman Leto – born in 1980 in Poland. An artist, self-educated in the field of video, painting, film and new media. Norman Leto’s debut solo exhibition took place in the Centre of Contemporary Art in Warsaw in 2007. Same year, he worked with the director Krystian Lupa on “Factory Two”, where his job was to prepare video sequences shown during the performance.

Born in 1979. Graduated from Dnipro Medical College in 1999. After graduation, worked as a medical assistant in a psychiatric emergency team. In 2001 Oleksandr has left medicine and started to work as a freelance photographer. Since 2005 he has been worked at the Kommersant-Ukraine daily newspaper.

Living and working between Canada and Switzerland, Peter Mettler melds intuitive-associative processes with drama, essay, experiment or documentation. A strong supporter of independent creativity, he has collaborated with numerous filmmakers, artists and musicians including Atom Egoyan, Fred Frith, Robert Lepage, Andreas Züst, Edward Burtynsky, Jennifer Baichwal, Michael Ondaatje.

Studied journalism in Prague. Moved to London to graduate in photojournalism, but never pursued career as a photographer. Moved to Berlin to learn German, then to Prague. Worked for a daily economic newspaper. Spent year as a blogger travelling around Asia.

Philipp Jedicke works as a freelance journalist, researcher and postproduction manager for public TV stations, film production companies, newspapers, magazines and websites.

Piotr Rosołowski is director and cinematographer. Graduated from the Katowice Film School, awarded with a scholarship of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Co-author of “Rabbit à la Berlin” – Academy Award nominated documentary film and co-director of documentary film “Domino Effect”.

Ramia Suleiman is a Syrian artist, born in 1975. She received her BA and MA in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University.

After fifteen-year career as a freelance artist in Damascus, she moved to Beirut and set up “ Artafif”, a studio which works on long-term art and design projects. One of these projects is Mdawar, which focuses on up-cycling fine objects. Examples of the these products can be found at mdawar.com.

Ruth Beckermann was born in Vienna where she also spent her childhood. After her studies in journalism and history of art in Vienna, Tel Aviv and New York, she took her degree as Dr.phil in 1977 at the University of Vienna. She since contributed as a journalist to several Austrian and Swiss magazines.

Whatever the subject – Shai will tell the most interesting story possible. Whether it is the refugees from Darfur or the artistic gymnastics team.

Sophie Fiennes is a film director whose feature documentaries for theatrical exhibition include her collaborations with the Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek, The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema, (2006) and The Pervert’s Guide to Ideology, (2012).

Werner Boote embarked on his career in film as a grip and learned all the skills necessary for filmmaking on the job. He studied theatre arts, media studies and sociology at the University of Vienna and Vienna Film Academy.

Wiktoria Szymańska is a British Academy nominated director, recognized and regularly awarded for her achievements shown in prestigious festivals (like Toronto, Locarno, Karlove Vary…).

Willem Baptist (1979) is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talent Campus, IDFA Workshop, IFFR Cinemart Lab and graduated from Willem de Kooning School of the Arts in 2009. His films have screened in competition at festivals such as IDFA, HotDocs, Toronto, Karlovy Vary, BFI London, AFI Docs and Slamdance.
